On October 1, 1949, People’s Republic of China was founded. In order to cultivate talents with professional knowledge and basic understanding of Marxism-Leninism to construct the new China, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to establish Renmin University of China by merging the North China University and the China University of Political Science and Law. Some of the cadres at the former North China University were transferred to organize and build Renmin University of China.

On December 16th, 1949, advised by the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, the 11^th Administrative Meeting of the National Administration Council passed “The Resolution on the Establishment of Renmin University of China”. On February 19, 1950, the 6^th Meeting of the Central People’s Government Commission appointed Wu Yuzhang as President of Renmin University of China, and Hu Xikui and Cheng Fangwu as Vice President. On November 12, the CPC Central Committee approved the establishment of the Communist Party Group at Renmin University of China, and appointed Hu Xikui as Secretary of the Party Group.

In over 80 years of history, from Shanbei Public School to Renmin University of China, more than 300,000 talents were trained at this university. Today, Renmin University of China has developed a multi-dimensional and multi-level teaching and research structure, encompassing undergraduate education, graduate education, and adult education to cultivate all kinds of high-level talents. Renmin University of China is now on the way to build itself into a world-class university with distinctive features and major international influence.
